Strength in shape

Postby menm2480 » Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:57 am

Hello, had a question regarding the difference in strength between different dome shapes. I have seen that a lot of people on here say that the spherical dome is stronger than a barrel vault but is there a stronger dome than a dome. Your thoughts. Thank you

It doesn't matter much unless there's a specific, abnormal load or issue that needs to be compensated for. Each of the possible shapes can be engineered to support/withstand pretty much any load if you're smart about the design. It's all about how much rebar and how much concrete and where they're placed.
